This series contains the press releases created at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado Springs, Colorado. The records were maintained by the Public Affairs Office at the Headquarters of the North American Air Defense Command (NORAD). Also included are press releases from the Office or Directorate of Information, in the Headquarters of the Aerospace Defense Command (ADCOM). Many records in this series contain photographs of the persons or events involved in the press releases. Some files contain related background material, fact sheets, newspaper clippings, and related publications. Some of the press releases contain biographical and obituary information of NORAD or ADCOM personnel, including the obituary of former Commander in Chief of NORAD, General Daniel "Chappie" James, Jr., the United States' first four star African-American general. Other press releases relate to an appearance of the singing group, The 5th Dimension, a cartoon summarizing the events of 1977, and information about the visits to NORAD by the Prime Minister of Denmark, Anker Jorgensen and Prime Minister of Canada, Pierre Trudeau. Also included are press releases of a visit to Peterson Air Force base by former Brooklyn Dodgers pitcher, Don Newcombe, a visit to NORAD's Combat Operations Center by World Figure Skating Champion, Linda Fratianne, and a duet singing performance with General James and singer Sammy Davis, Jr. during a tribute show for the General.

Daniel "Chappie" James Jr. (February 11, 1920 – February 25, 1978) was an American fighter pilot in the U.S. Air Force, who in 1975 became the first African American to reach the rank of four-star general in any of the armed forces. In September 1937, James enrolled in Tuskegee Institute in Alabama. James graduated from Tuskegee with a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education.
